CBD products come in several forms. This can make it difficult for you to know which one to use and when to use it. Of the different forms available, CBD is commonly produced as oils or gummies. This leads people to wonder what the difference is between the two products. So, let’s get started.
CBD is short for cannabidiol. It is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. This compound is one of the several cannabinoids present in cannabis. Unlike THC – another major cannabinoid in cannabis, CBD is not addictive or psychoactive. So, it won’t make you high.
Gummies and oils are made with the extracted cannabidiol from the cannabis plant. However, while oils are made by diluting the cannabidiol with carrier oils like coconut oil or hemp oil, gummies are made by mixing the extracted CBD and turning it into chewy candy.
Gummies are made for chewing. So, there’s no other way to consume them than to eat them. Because they are discrete and portable you can get your daily dose of cannabidiol from them anywhere and anytime.
Cannabidiol oil is a bit more versatile when it comes to usage. You can take the oil sublingually; which refers to placing few drops of the product under your tongue for quick and easy absorption.
If you follow the product directions well and hold drops of cannabidiol oil under your tongue before swallowing, the oil will take effect within a short period. It is, however, advisable to allow up to one hour after swallowing to assess the effect of the oil on you. This way you can estimate the right dosage to use afterward.
Meanwhile, edibles like gummies will take a while before they take effect. The fact that they are eaten means that the digestive system will be able to break down the cannabidiol properly.
Potency and Dosage
The potency and dosage of cannabidiol oils vary with brands and there are valid concerns about how to use the tinctures to get the right dose. However, whether or not you are comfortable with measuring the doses with the dropper, it is good practice to check the directions on the product label and follow them first. It is also useful to start with a small dose, say half a dropper.
If you want unflavoured CBD that you can put in your food, drinks, or smoothies, then the tinctures are your best bet. They are also suitable for you if you are happy to hold the oil under your tongue before swallowing. Some oils also have classic flavors like lemon. You can go for such products if you would like some flavor in your oils.
Knowing the difference between CBD gummies and oils makes it easy to know which one will be right for you. You can make a choice based on the ease of use, dosage and potency, rate of absorption, and flavor or taste.
